GED Educator from Tennessee Featured on CNN

Every year CNN asks some famous people who their heroes are. This year one of the heroes CNN will feature is Bernadine Nelson, an adult education supervisor from Tennessee. Bernadine was nominated by famous country singer, Gretchen Wilson, as her hero because she helped Gretchen earn her GED® this summer. View a video of Gretchen Wilson on CNN talking about why she decided to get her GED®, and how Ms. Nelson supported her.

According to an email from COABE, Ms. Nelson will be shown on CNN today, Friday and Saturday, 10/30-11/1, on the following schedule:

THURSDAY  9-10P/12-1A  ( Larry King Live )
FRIDAY  8-9A, 11A-12P, 3-4P
SATURDAY    11-12A, 3-4P, 5-6P, 10-11P/1-2A

FRIDAY    7:30-8A, 2:30-3P, 5-6P, 8-9P/10-11P/1-2A
SATURDAY    8-8:30A, 2-2:30P

FRIDAY    2A, 7A, 12P, 8P

You can also view short videos of other celebrities nominating their heroes, submit your own nomination, or vote for one of the top ten heroes selected by a panel. The videos could be good discussion or writing prompts for ABE, ASE and higher levels of ESL. CNN provides a note to educators about using the CNN Heroes project in the classroom with discussion questions and links to standards, and Anderson Cooper will host a special to celebrate the winning heroes on Thanksgiving night, Nov. 27.
