Perkins Workshops This Week and Next

Workshops for local administrators of the Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Improvement Act of 2006 (Perkins IV) are being offered this week and next by the California Department of Education. All local educational agencies (LEAs) participating in the Perkins IV funds, including those who participate in the funds as members of consortia, are encouraged to have their Perkins funds administrator, data, and fiscal people in attendance at one of the workshop sessions.

The workshop will address a number of items pertinent to the local administration of the Perkins funds including, but not limited to, the following:

  • Requirements of districts for writing the 5 year local plan
  • New requirements of consortiums
  • New Program of Study requirement
  • Application for funds-revised for 2008-09
  • Sections 112, 131 and 132 allocations for 2008-09
  • Updated placement report (CDE 101 E-2) on 2006-07 Career Technical Education (CTE) program completers
  • Federal requirements of programs to be assisted with the funds
  • Overview of required reports
  • State determined quality criteria and indicators for programs and courses to be assisted with the funds
  • Permissive and restricted uses of the funds
  • Requirements for serving special population students in CTE programs assisted with the Perkins funds
  • Preparation for the coordinated compliance review

An orientation session will be conducted from 8:15 to 8:45 a.m. for new administrators of the Perkins funds, followed by a 9:00 a.m. to noon general session for all local administrators.

There is no fee for the workshops, nor is it necessary to pre-register.
