Adult educators can download free health literacy materials developed by the Joint Commission, together with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, and aimed at improving medical treatment through better doctor-patient communication.  Materials include a video and pamphlets in English and Spanish, with topics such as how to prevent medication mistakes or a mistake in your surgery, how to prevent infection, and information for organ donors. In addition to the pamphlets, there is a downloadable wallet card that students can use to list all their medications. The campaign is part of the Joint Commission’s patient Speak Up safety program.
